The crew of Paul Davis** showed up on June 6th. The project manager was nice and sympathetic. The rest of the team was college-aged and younger.
If you have never experienced a fire, you may not know that the soot gets in every crevice in the house. Everything smells of smoke, chemicals, and burned plastic.
Because of our friends at the hotel and online groups, we were skeptical our items could be properly cleaned. When we asked the manager about this, she assured us that we would decide if the items were cleaned well enough. If we were not satisfied, we could turn down the items.
The audio of one such assurance was, incidentally, caught on video. The project manager says, “The worst thing I can tell you is when I get it back to the shop and call you and go, Brittney, it didn’t clean up and it still stinks…and that point, we take it off the bill and you get it replaced…so it’s kind of a win-win for ya….” Although this audio does not say we would be the judge, she assured us several times outside of the recording.
In a later slide, we explain that we were not allowed to inspect the items before return. Our skepticism was affirmed when many cloth items were returned, still reeking of smoke.
